Spent the last week in Queensland at the A.C.T.U congress. Although once considered a backwater especially in politics, it seems that Brisbane has gone ahead in leaps and bounds. The public transport system leaves Melbourne for dead and should shame the minister Lyn Kosky.
For the princely sum of $4.80 for a daily ticket you can travel the entire breadth of the Brisbane river, hop off, catch a bus or a train jump back on the boat back on the train etc.
Now for the A.C.T.U Congress. It seems the Deputy Prime minister Julia Gillard at one stage was as popular as a pork chop at the rabbi’s picnic when, in her speech to congress, she read from the mantra of the master builders association alleging that building workers were involved in thuggery and other acts of violence along with balaclava-clad motor cycle gangs.
As Julia went through her speech she was confronted by 600 delegates wearing yellow t-shirts “one law for all”" and “abolish the ABCC”.
Liar, Cow and bullshit reverberated around the congress and were some of the less than complimentary comments made from the floor.
I would have thought that any person facing charges from the Westgate dispute had the presumption of innocence, a lawyer of her standing should have known better!!
At the Congress dinner Kevin Rudd proved just what a funster he really is. Funster Kev began his address with “I’m Kevin and I’m from Queensland” Delegates were literally rolling in the aisles, not! but Kev did his best extolling the virtues of his socialist labour party to the point where most delegates were transported back to the socialist brigadoon of Cuba listening to one of comrade Fidel Castro’s finest speeches .
