Dead / The new Normal

05.15.2020 by bagman //

Thanks to the magnificent effort of most Australians and to the state governments especially Victoria and NSW guiding us through the current pandemic covid19

Australians have shown  exemplary restraint during this time, except for a few people suffering from relevance deprivation protesting on the steps of parliament golf clubs in hand as well the tin hat brigade, but bitter old footballers and a couple of conspiracy theorists go nowhere near the sanity portrayed by the overwhelming majority of people.

However, now that some restrictions have been lifted we must be extremely aware not to take unfair advantage of the liberty we  now enjoy .

My father used to say ‘you can’t put brains in monuments’, how true after seeing television footage of the greedy uncaring people flocking to the Bourke St Mall this week before the easing of restrictions.

What essential business did people engage in travelling from the outer suburbs to shop at Myer and David Jones in the Bourke St Mall,  probably travelling on public transport to get there.

This will become the new normal, people flouting the social distancing laws and not adhering to restrictions placed on the population for our own good.

Eventually this will lead to more clusters of this deadly virus simply because people will enjoy this new sense of freedom but it will cause the death of many more elderly and immuno compromised victims.

As these deadly clusters appear more regularly most people will claim that they have  done their period of self isolation and will not be prepared to go back to more restrictions .

Eventually adopting the attitude “oh we’ve done our best we have to accept that some more people may die”

A extremely selfish attitude and I hope I’m wrong but we see how some people grasped the proposed easing of restrictions before they were introduced and abused them.

How many people are we prepared to let die and accept it to be within reasonable bounds so that we don’t have to go back into isolation?

I’m afraid any more outbreaks will be treated with a lack of compassion and  public opinions will be  that we need to contain these incidents in isolation without reverting the the measures of the past .

Meaning many people will die because some  will be prepared to argue that’s the price of freedom, it will become the new normal

Sad !!
